She has worked in taxation, audit, and most recently in a CSP covering a broad range of accounting disciplines.
Karen Quine - BA (Hons), ACA
Karen then did a stint in payroll, before moving into internal audit for the next couple of years. She then qualified as an Internal Auditor with the Chartered Institute of Internal Auditors and moved to Grant Thornton to complete her ACA studies (and gain some experience in external audit).
Karen is currently working as a Finance Business Partner, back in the public sector, focusing mainly on management accounts, budget setting and control and internal governance.
Ali Ahmed - ACCA
Robin McGhee - MA, TEP, FCIB, DipFS, DipDistanceEd
Robin is an experienced trust practitioner who has managed trust companies in the Isle of Man, Cayman Islands and Switzerland.
He is a long standing member of STEP, previously appointed a Director and currently serving on their Professional Standards Committee and Academic Standards Working Group.
Robin has lectured on the STEP/CLTI Trust Management Certificate and Diploma programmes since their inception.
He is a Fellow of the London Institute of Banking and Finance and holds diplomas in trusts and financial services.
He has a Masters in education and a diploma in distance education.
Robin was once a FIFA qualified football referee and is also a Level 3 cricket coach.
Sean O'Leary - BSc (Hons), ACMA
Sean is a St Andrews maths graduate and began his career in fund management in the city in 1985. He began his teaching career with BPP in 2000, and since then has taught and written material for a variety of teaching organisation both in the UK and overseas, specialising in strategic level papers.
Additionally, he has been a marker, moderator and examiner for a number of accountancy institutes in the UK for over fifteen years.
A keen Rochdale AFC fan, he is no stranger to despair, and is always willing to discuss the restorative powers of a hot meat and potato pie in a wet north facing stand in January.
Jonathan Williams - FCA
Jonathan qualified as an ICAEW Chartered Accountant and worked in practice in London and Cambridge. He worked in practice for 8 years in accounts and audit.
He began his teaching career more than 30 years ago working in a university training undergraduates. He began working for Kaplan in Singapore teaching ACCA SBR and Audit then relocated to Kaplan Glasgow for a change of scene and climate.
Since 2006 he has worked in Manchester teaching on ICAEW, ACCA, tax and CPD courses around the UK, Isle of Man, Northern Island and overseas.
When not lecturing Jonathan and his wife enjoy looking after other peoples’ cats and dogs.
Keith Salmon - Int. Dip (GRC) ICA, CII FP (Levels 1, 2, 3 & 4)
With over 20 years experience in managing conduct risk for a major bank in the International Wealth arena, Keith has a breadth and depth of knowledge in the provision of risk and compliance services, across a number of highly regulated jurisdications, including the Isle of Man, Jersey, Dubai, South Africa, Gibraltar, USA and UK.
Keith is also a highly skilled technical trainer in the provision of financial advice and has great experience in the delivery of internal audit / monitoring and managing thematic reviews.
Michael Budden - LLB, CTA
Michael started his professional life as a solicitor. Once he realised that he had a passion and aptitude for tax, he moved to a Big 4 global accountancy firm, where he qualified as a Chartered Tax Adviser. He also worked at a private bank, advising individuals on their tax and financial affairs.
Michael’s other professional passion is education and training. He gets a huge amount of satisfaction from adding to people’s knowledge and understanding and prides himself on being able to explain concepts clearly and simply.
Michael designs and delivers tax and law training courses across the UK, for a broad range of clients including exam tuition companies, universities, CPD providers, examining bodies, professional institutes, national networks, global and UK professional firms and businesses. He also provides services such as estate planning, tax advice, wills and powers of attorney for his own client base.
Outside of his career, Michael’s main passions are rugby, cricket, golf, attending live sport and music events, and playing poker.
